163 I couldn't put this book down. I had pre-ordered Brenda's book because I've gotten to know her and her content through her Godisgrey YouTube channel. I started the book on a Monday afternoon and finished it by the following morning. Not only is the subject matter very relatable to me and my personal experience of purity culture but it was also beautifully written. Brenda is an extremely talented writer! I truly felt like I got a really clear glimpse into her experience through her words. As someone who also grew up in fundamental Christianity and has been affected by purity culture teachings, On Her Knees was very healing for me to read. This is Brenda's lived experience and throughout the book she paints a clear picture of what she went through up til now, but she also weaves important topics in and out of the chapters as it relates to her experience. For example, a lot of the "hot topics" or "tricky subject matter" that the church has such black and white views on, she discusses and reflects upon through a grace-filled and understanding lens. I greatly appreciate this about Brenda- encouraging us to use our God-given brains and look at some of these things we've been taught through a different perspective and from all angles. This is HER story and I appreciate her being so vulnerable and real with all of us! I would absolutely recommend this book to both Christians and non-Christians alike (no matter where you are on your spiritual journey).
